Who Can Use Lumo StoryTime

Lumo StoryTime is for anyone who loves stories. You can use it on your own, share it with your family, or set it up for a child to enjoy.

By using the app, you agree to these terms. If you intend for a child to use this app, see "When Children Use the App" for important details.

How Your Data is Used

We aim to use your data responsibly and protect your privacy.

We use artificial intelligence (AI) to create your stories, audiobooks, and heroes using models provided by companies like OpenAI, Google, ElevenLabs, and xAI.

When you use these features, the app securely sends your request to Lumo's servers first. From there, we send the minimum needed to each AI model that creates your story, audiobook, or hero. That request can include things like:

The hero you picked or photo you took to create a story
The story you're turning into an audiobook
The reader's age, reading level, and language
The reader's name and gender, if "Include Me in the Story" is turned on
Details you enter when creating a custom hero, like appearance, skills, and description

This information is used to create your story and match the reader's vocabulary, pacing, and themes.

Lumo's servers keep a copy of the stories and audiobooks we create for you. We use these copies to help with support — for example, looking up a story if something unexpected came up. We may also re-use highly rated stories in the future with other readers. These copies are removed when you delete your Lumo account — you'll have 24 hours to undo this by signing back in.

Lumo also collects anonymous usage information through Google Analytics to help us understand how often the app is used, which features are used most, and whether things are working well.

"Share How You Use StoryTime" is on by default
You can turn off this setting at any time
We use a unique but anonymous ID to understand how people use the app over time
This anonymous ID is reset once per year
If you turn off "Share How You Use StoryTime" and back on again, you will have a new anonymous ID

We never use your data for ads, and we never sell it to anyone.

Magic Camera

Magic Camera lets you take a photo and use it to inspire a story. When you use it:

Your photo is sent through Lumo's servers to an AI model so it can inspire the details of your story
The photo is saved alongside the story it helped create, on your device
It is not added to your Photos app
Lumo's servers don't keep a copy of your photo. They may keep a short text description the AI wrote of what's in the photo, so the story can use it later.
If you turn on Lumo Cloud, your story and its photo are uploaded to your Lumo account so you can use them on your other devices

You can turn off Magic Camera at any time in StoryTime's Settings.

Only upload photos that are yours to use. If other people are in the photo, make sure they're okay with being part of your story. Please don't upload anything copyrighted, inappropriate, or harmful.

What You Can (and Can't) Do

StoryTime is made for your personal enjoyment.

You can:

Create and read stories on your own or with your family
Create audiobooks from stories you've already made
Share stories you've created with others for fun
Use Magic Camera to create stories from photos

You shall not:

Use StoryTime to create or share content that's harmful, violent, or inappropriate
Upload photos you don't have the rights to
Use bots, scripts, or tools to automate app behavior
Publish, sell, or make money from stories or images made with StoryTime
Use the stories or images to train another AI model or create other apps or content
Try to reverse-engineer how the app works

Who Owns What

The Lumo StoryTime app — including its design, story engine, branding, and features — belongs to Apps By Lumo, LLC.

You're welcome to use the stories and images you create for your own personal, non-commercial use, but you may not:

Claim ownership of the app or its content
Sell, publish, or distribute Lumo StoryTime content for money
Use any part of the app to train, build, or power other technologies

Account, Backups, Sign Out, and Delete

To use Lumo StoryTime, you'll create a free Lumo account using Sign in with Apple. Your Lumo account keeps your Stars safe across devices.

Lumo Cloud is included with Star Pass. It saves a backup of your stories, heroes, photos, and settings, and lets you sync them between your devices.

Sign Out and Delete Account:

Signing out clears the stories, heroes, and settings on this device. Your Stars stay safe on Lumo's servers and are ready when you sign back in. If you use Lumo Cloud, your library is restored on the next device you sign in on.
Turning off Lumo Cloud stops future backups and syncing, but doesn't automatically delete data already saved in Lumo Cloud
Deleting a story, audiobook, or hero from Lumo Cloud also removes it from your other devices
Deleting your Lumo account removes your account, your Stars, your Lumo Cloud, and the server-side copies of every story and audiobook you've created. You'll have 24 hours to undo this by signing back in. The device ID we use to help protect your account is also cleared.

Stars: Your Stars are kept safe on Lumo's servers and tied to your Lumo account, so they stay with you on any device you sign in on.

Star Pass: Star Pass is an Apple subscription managed in your device's Settings. Deleting your Lumo account doesn't cancel it — to cancel, go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

AI Isn't Perfect

Lumo StoryTime uses AI to create stories and illustrations. While we work hard to guide the AI models to create stories and images that are age-appropriate and high-quality, it may make mistakes.

By using the app, you agree that:

AI-generated stories and illustrations may occasionally include surprises or imperfections
We're not responsible for the content created by AI models or how they're used

When Children Use the App

Many people use Lumo StoryTime with their children, or set it up for them. Some specific things to know:

You confirm that a responsible adult is involved when a child uses the app
If you set up a profile for someone under 13, you confirm that you are doing so as their parent or legal guardian and consent to how the app uses data on their behalf
You're responsible for supervising what a child using the app sees, including stories and illustrations the AI creates

Legal Stuff

We do our best to keep Lumo StoryTime reliable and fun, but we can't make guarantees.

The app is provided "as is" and "as available."
We don't guarantee that it will always work perfectly or be available at all times.
We're not responsible for any losses — including lost stories, stars, or progress — caused by bugs, crashes, resets, or deletions.

Resolving Disagreements

We aim to please, but if for some reason we enter a dispute — here's how we'd like to handle it.

First, Let's Talk

If you have an issue, please reach out to us at help@appsbylumo.com. We'll do our best to resolve things informally and quickly.

Arbitration Instead of Court

If we can't resolve the issue informally, you agree to handle it through binding arbitration, not in court.

Arbitration will happen in California under rules from the American Arbitration Association (AAA)
Each side pays its own costs unless the arbitrator decides otherwise
You agree to waive any right to a jury trial or class-action lawsuit

30-Day Opt-Out

If you'd rather go to court, you can opt out of arbitration. Just email us at help@appsbylumo.com with the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out" and include a screenshot or brief description of your device or Lumo account details — within 30 days of first using the app.

Changes to These Terms

If we make big changes to these Terms, we'll let you know inside the app. By continuing to use Lumo StoryTime, you agree to the latest version.
